imagine semi-sweet melty chocolate, 9:30 on a chilly saturday morning

and this is what i power-walked across the historic center to get to in time: at a bakery who just happened to have had a french pastry chef come teach them how to overcome the infamous butter phobia i've diagnosed most italians as suffering from, in order to make real, live, rich, buttery pain au chocolat.

and i got there for the last one. (okay, i admit, the last two!) and the decaf coffee milk sometimes comes with one of these little 'paintings' on top in the foam by the barrista. thank you, italia.
